New GTA IV Review - IGN

By: charliepage @ Apr 25, 2008 - 5:28 pm

IGN has just posted a brand new GTA IV Review, spanning a long 7 pages and giving the game a perfect 10/10 in all departments. (including an overall 10/10)

Here's some tidbits from the review:

"The story is Oscar quality. The use of the phone as a gaming portal is genius. There's really nothing more that could be asked for from GTA IV."

"The level of detail is astounding. Liberty City feels alive and lived in. While there are some technical issues, the artistic merits push the score to the max. A true marvel."

"The story will take anywhere from 25-45 hours to complete, depending on your skill level and attention span. There's plenty more to do once you finish the story, such as excellent multiplayer."

New GTA IV Review - Games Aktuell

By: charliepage @ Apr 19, 2008 - 11:52 am

Games Aktuell is now the third magazine to review Grand Theft Auto IV and another score of 10/10. Here's the details:

* Graphics: 9/10
The gigantic size of the city makes you forget the few graphical imperfections of the game.

* Sound: 10/10
Best GTA soundtrack ever, and probably the most compelling feature in the game.

* Controls: 8/10
Far from perfect but a big step from the previous GTA games.

* Multiplayer: 9/10
Great concept and innovative integration with the single-player mode.

* Gameplay: 10/10
We can't score it 11/10...

* Conclusion
GTA4 is by far the best action game ever created.

New GTA IV Review - OPM UK - News Story

New GTA IV Review - OPM UK

By: charliepage @ Apr 16, 2008 - 11:11 am

Review #2 of GTA IV comes from Official Playstation Magazine (UK). The score is the same, an impressive 10/10, just like OXM UK.

Below are some details from the review, thanks to a member on the GTA Forums and GTA4.net (spoilers below):

  • One of the reasons Niko goes to Liberty City is to track down the man who betrayed his old army unit.
  • Hidden Packages and Stunt Jumps are back
  • Cars no longer catch fire at the slightest provocation.
  • "After killing one of Niko's bosses you can ring his number and you hear an answer machine message from his grieving wife"
  • "You can blind fire with any weapon except the Sniper Rifle"
  • There are several points at which you make life or death decisions between key cast members.
  • Comedy clubs feature real comedians.
  • "Michelle" is the first girl that Niko hooks up with.
  • Dimitiri Rascalov is Mikhail Faustin's right hand man.
  • "Other uses of the phone on missions include calling a target to make him come to the window and into Niko's sniper sight."
  • There is a museum called the Libertonian museum, which features dinosaur fossils and exploding vases. Environments such as these have been created specifically for shootouts, so there's plenty of cover.

Here's the full list of all the radio stations in GTA IV:

  • WKTT - We Know The Truth (right wing talk radio)
  • San Juan Sounds (latin)
  • Integrity 2.0 (speech, hosted by Lazlow)
  • Liberty City Hardcore (punk/hardcore)
  • Liberty Rock Radio 97.8 (classic rock)
  • The Vibe 98.8 (soul/R'n'B)
  • PLR - Public Liberty Radio (call-in speech)
  • The Classics 104.1 (old-skool hip-hop)
  • Jazz Nation Radio 108.5 (jazz)
  • Vladivostok FM (eastern european)
  • Radio Broker (alt rock)
  • Tuff Gong Radio (reggae/dub)
  • Electro Choc (dance)
  • Massive B Soundsystem 96.9 (dance hall)
  • IF99 - International Funk (funk)
  • The Beat 102.7 (contemporary hip-hop)
  • K109 The Studio (disco)

New EGM 13-page GTA IV preview - News Story

New EGM 13-page GTA IV preview

By: charliepage @ Mar 05, 2008 - 6:09 pm

GTA4.net has the scoop that EGM got an exclusive interview with the Rockstar Games president and they have some new details:

  • Apparently Niko Bellic was inspired by a favourite driver from Rockstar Games' car service.
  • There are 14 radio stations in the game, not 18 as was previously suggested.
  • Niko is an old soldier who spent time in third-world prisons.
  • On the subject of multiplayer, Houser says: "I just like running up to a bunch of players with the grenade cooking in my hands and taking them all out with me." A range of 'standard' multiplayer modes are available, in addition to some which haven't been tried before. Nothing else was revealed unfortunately.
  • For the new melee-combat system, Rockstar consulted a UFC master of the Israeli special-forces martial art, Krav Maga.
  • When GTA IV was first being planned, Aaron Garbut (Rockstar North's art director) unveiled an enormous map featuring Liberty City surrounded by countryside the size of New York state. This "megamap" seemed the logical step after San Andreas, but R* soon decided to change their focus, and work on creating a larger GTA experience instead of just a larger map.
